A WHOLE ISSUE DEVOTED TO INTERNET RESOURCES! |
For the past several weeks I have been researching the Internet for nonprofit resources and I am simply amazed at what valuable information is there for us!
Because the previous special edition of this newsletter was all about web sites, this issue follows with a composite of what I have found that I think you’ll find useful.
What? You’ve never given yourself the luxury of time to research the Internet?? Well, friends, it isn’t just a luxury anymore—it is a necessity to stay current about ways to improve your success in the nonprofit sector...and the wonderful part about this method of research is that it is FREE.
So, get comfortable, pour yourself a BIG cup of coffee or a glass of your favorite beverage and get ready to surf!
I found lots of links to useful places when I just started with www.Google.com and used combinations of key words such as nonprofit, fundraising, board of directors, organizations, and associations. Of all the search engines, Google is ranked highest in depth of searches.
And
The Winner Is…..
My all time favorite site is
www.CharityChannel.com. Here you
will find free on-line forums for grant writing, sponsorships, technical
information, Boards of Directors, lists of consultants and much more. They
review books, send pertinent articles and email newsletters and are an
incredible resource!
Salary Comparisons
Budgeting always makes us wonder what everyone else is getting paid.
Visit
www.abbott-langer.com/alasno.html or DelawareNonprofit.org has a job resources page of links at
www.delawarenonprofit.org/jobs.html.
Some Other Good Ones
The Internet Nonprofit Center at
www.nonprofits.org has a wealth of
links to resources for management, regulation and resources in general.
Try the National Council on Nonprofit Associations at www.ncna.org for more links and a listing of statewide associations for nonprofits.
Corporate Giving
The Council of Foundations has a directory at
www.cof.org. CSC Nonprofit Resource Center
has 645 links to corporate websites and more. Get to them via a search by their
name on Google.com.
The Foundation Center’s site is www.fdncenter.org where you will find hundreds of links to large, medium and small corporate donors with foundations. A huge set of links to corporate funders is available at www.fundsnetservices.com. Also try www.sponsorship.com for all types of corporate sponsorships. I also like Emory University’s site at www.emory.edu for links to corporate philanthropy.
For information and articles on corporate giving, try www.charityvillage.com and www.philanthropy.com for the Chronicle of Philanthropy site, the Nonprofit Times site at www.nptimes.com and the Custom Design Solutions site at www.cdsfunds.com. Another source is Hill & Knowlton’s site at www.hillandknowlton.com. Look for articles there on corporate philanthropy.
Or, try searching on www.google.com using key words like “corporate philanthropy foundations.”
All the links mentioned in this newsletter are hot linked
so you can just point and click to access them.
Internet Resources for Grants and Grant Writing
The resources I am giving you barely scratch the surface of what is on the Internet and I promise you that with a little time, you’ll find all you need to know, right there at your fingertips.
Charity Channel’s site is a good place to start by signing on to the grants-makers online forum at www.charitychannel.com. You’ll gain valuable insights from your peers and from consultants who offer FREE advice!
I love Abe’s Grants Reports. He does the homework and searches the federal Register and other sources and sends a daily email with details. It’s a bargain at $80 a year. Sign up at abes-free-grant-reports-subscribe@grants.biglist.com.
Another great resource is consultant Marilyn Gross’s site. She sends a regular email newsletter, “The Internet Insider,” packed with useful information and links and it’s free. Marilyn also offers an online course on grant writing, beginning August 7, October 2 and December 4 this year.
The Grantsmanship Center site at www.tgci.com is a great resources. Find a free, searchable database of funded proposals selected by major governmental agencies from among their highest-rated applications and much, much more useful stuff.
Of course, the Foundation Center’s site at www.fdncenter.org has a wealth of valuable in formation, links, and other resources.
And try all these: www.fundsnetservices.com, www.nonprofit.gov, www.usda.gov, www.firstgov.com, www.schoolgrants.org, www.grantshotline.com, www.grantstation.com, www.philanthropy.com, and www.tcgigrantproposals.com.
Or, just visit www.google.com and enter key words such as grants, foundations, grantwriting, and the like, hold on to your seat and put lots of paper in your printer for all the leads you’ll get.
Internet Resources for Boards of Directors
There is an online newsletter exclusively for members of nonprofit Boards of Directors which is published monthly by boardcafe@compasspoint.org.
And you should check into www.CharityChannel.com to sign on as an online member of the Boards forum to exchange questions and answers with your peers and with nonprofit consultants—free advice!
There are lots of good articles written about Boards on a number of the sites already referenced in this newsletter, and you’ll find more by searching on www.google.com using key words such as nonprofit, board of directors.

Job Searching on the Non-profit Internet
So
you love your job but you’d like to see what else is available out there? A free
nonprofit/fundraising careers and resume database is at
www.cdsfunds.com/fundraising_career_database.htm.
Here you can post your resume and see what happens, or, if you are looking to hire a nonprofit professional, post your job listing and browse the resumes.
Salary comparisons are available from www.afpnet.org and are free if you are a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, or for a small fee if you are not a member.
Several other sites offer job postings and databases, and guess what? You’ll find more by going to …. Yeah, www.google.com.
